This is the second book in the Court of Thorns and Roses series, so if you haven’t read that yet, by all means DO. This will get a smidge spoiler-y from this point on. I’d really just like to leave it there, but we have that pesky 250 word obligation so, here goes. May have murmured “so, so, good” under my breath first. Slammed it shut and immediately requested the third book in this series from the library. CBR BINGO: Cityscape square (bottom left corner) ![]()

It went further into how journalists should have covered the events leading to the Gulf War if they were not bought and owned by the government. Beyond the theoretical aspect of propaganda early in the book, which is where my interests are, it morphed into criticisms of the United States government making hypocritical cases for war and holding ownership over all of the media outlets. This book covered several interesting theories on the use of propaganda in democratic societies to control the “bewildered herd” – Chomsky’s term for describing the uneducated and uninformed public. The history of propaganda leading to its modern day usage fascinates me, especially in how it ties in with the early days of the Public Relations discipline. ![]() I really did not know what I was stepping into when I decided to read Noam Chomsky’s Media Control. ![]() ![]() ![]() Kira’s relaxing contemplation of the universe is interrupted when a piece of it falls, colliding with her and starting a chain of events that could unexpectedly lead to the one thing in her life that’s missing-her father. Brown's paintings were often characterized by their penchant for sluicing distortion. He sought to fetishize expressionistic brushwork, such as that which characterized the work of the School of London, by flattening the tactile surfaces through finely applied brushwork. Emerging from the late-twentieth-century environment that treated painting with mistrust, Brown developed a special interest in raised impasto brushwork. ![]() His artistic concerns lay fundamentally with painterly form and how he might call on the history of art to pursue his interest in addressing the philosophical puzzle of artistic authenticity. ![]() ![]() Night Watch is very different from Vita Nostra and Age of Witches, by Marina and Sergey Dyanchenko, but I found all these books seem to present a different view of the human struggle, concerned more with ordinary (and extraordinary) people trying to hold onto their humanity in the face of a grim and relentless universe, and less concerned with magical pyrotechnics and orders of wizards and species of supernatural fauna, even if there are plenty of those. While I'm not a fan of urban fantasy in general, Russian urban fantasy has its own distinct flavor, and offers something different from the usual tropes of American and British UF. ![]() When a young boy with extraordinary powers emerges, fulfilling the first half of the prophecy, will the forces of the Light be able to keep the Dark from corrupting the boy and destroying the world?
